2026 Scripture Memorization “Hebrews”

It has been the church’s commitment to help believers’ families cultivate the godly habit of putting God’s word in our hearts. In the past, we have practised memorising the Bible together as a church four times a year, with one long passage and three short passages each quarter.

However, we recently observed that most of us begin to memorise only one or two weeks before the deadline, likely influenced by the “deadline-driven” culture of modern society. Unfortunately, as the deadline approaches, you may be busy with other things and unable to find time to memorise. Some of us cannot complete the memorisation due to insufficient time.

Actually, there are many pockets of time in our daily lives, such as on the bus or MRT, waiting for the next class on campus, waiting to board an aeroplane, friends notifying us that they would be half an hour late, or waiting for dinner at home. To your surprise, these pockets of time may add up to several hours! Yet we often let them slip through our fingers: swiping our smartphones, which are often not so smart.

The sermon on “The Value of Time” last Sunday reminded us that every moment in life is a gift from God. However little it may be, it should not be wasted. The Sidon woman begged Jesus for grace, saying, “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table” (Matthew 15:27). After the Lord Jesus performed the miracle of the five loaves and two fish, he ordered his disciples to gather the crumbs, which filled twelve baskets! If even the crumbs of bread are treasured by the Lord, how much more is the time He bought for you with His blood?

Therefore, we will remove the memorisation deadlines this year. You have a whole year to complete the book of Hebrews! You can memorise a part or one verse whenever you have a nothing-to-do moment. Once you have memorised a chapter, you can recite it to an elder, deacon or Sunday School teacher. You do not need to memorise the entire book of Hebrews in one go. However, the requirements for memorisation remain unchanged: one mistake per chapter is allowed.

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.” (Luke 21:33) How precious is the Word of God. Let us work together to keep God’s words in our hearts! Brothers and sisters, where there is a will, there is a way. The Holy Spirit will help you!
