Chinese New Year Family Service

Opening Prayer

Dear Lord, thank you for gathering us together to worship you today. Thank you for leading us and our families peacefully through the past year. Despite the many ups and downs and uncertainties, dear Lord, you were with us during the good times and the bad times, in times of sorrow or in happiness, we experience you no matter when we are in difficulties and trials, or when we are rejoicing! O Lord, your grace is sufficient for us! May your Holy Spirit fill this place and fill the heart of each one of us, that we will sing praises and give glory to you with gratitude! May you watch over and bless our gathering from the beginning till the end. In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, we pray, Amen.

Call to Worship – Psalms 28:8-9

The Lord is the strength of his people, a fortress of salvation for his anointed one. Save your people and bless your inheritance; be their shepherd and carry them forever.

Praise The Lord – Psalm 115: 1-18

Scripture Recitation   (All Together

Not to us, Lord, not to us, but to your name be the glory,
because of your love and faithfulness.

Why do the nations say, “Where is their God?”
Our God is in heaven; he does whatever pleases him.
But their idols are silver and gold, made by human hands.
They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes, but cannot see.
They have ears, but cannot hear, noses, but cannot smell.
They have hands, but cannot feel, feet, but cannot walk,
nor can they utter a sound with their throats.
Those who make them will be like them,
and so will all who trust in them.

All you Israelites, trust in the Lord—
he is their help and shield.
House of Aaron, trust in the Lord—
he is their help and shield.

You who fear him, trust in the Lord—
he is their help and shield.

The Lord remembers us and will bless us:
He will bless his people Israel,
he will bless the house of Aaron,
he will bless those who fear the Lord— small and great alike.

May the Lord cause you to flourish,
both you and your children.
May you be blessed by the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

The highest heavens belong to the Lord,
but the earth he has given to mankind.
It is not the dead who praise the Lord,
those who go down to the place of silence;
it is we who extol the Lord,
both now and forevermore.

Praise the Lord.

Praise and Thanksgiving Prayer

Dear God who sits enthroned on high, Your name is to be exalted! You are worthy of all praise! Thank you Lord for remembering us lowly human beings who live on this earth. You revealed yourself to us and sent your one and begotten son Jesus Christ to us that we may come to you through him and can stand firm before you.  The gods made by the hands of man are worthless. Only you are the One and the true God who remains the same forever. May you open the eyes of mankind, that they may know you and believe in your Holy Name!

Thank you for choosing us as your children and grant us your salvation. We are truly blessed by the Lord , the maker of heaven and earth! You are our help and our shield for we trust in you. Please help us to be the people who fear you. May your grace and mercy never cease among us and our children. May we and our households always offer praise and thanksgiving to you from the bottom of our hearts.  We give thanks and pray in the name of our saviour Jesus Christ, Amen.

Reborn In Christ – Ephesians 2:1-10

Scripture Recitation

 (Individually or Take turns)

1 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.

All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Short Message or Thanksgiving Prayer

(Please feel free to pray)

Dear Lord, thank you for reminding us again through this passage that we once died in our sins and transgressions, we followed our sinful desires and did not feel ashamed. It is your great love that shines into our hearts and opens our eyes to see our own sins and makes known to us your great salvation. You love us so much that you even died to pay the debt of our sins. Thank you for giving us faith that we may believe and trust in you and honor you as our God. Thank you for revealing to us your great love and mercy! Please help us not to take for granted this salvation which was freely given to us, but to treasure it dearly. May your great love drive away the darkness in our hearts that we may love others as how you loved us. Amen.

New Life in Christ – Ephesians 5:1-21

Scripture Recitation

 (Individually or Take turns)

Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient. Therefore do not be partners with them. For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) 10 and find out what pleases the Lord.

11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. 12 It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. 13 But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. 14 This is why it is said:  “Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”

15 Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. 18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.

New Year Resolutions

 (Please feel free to pray)

Dear Lord, thank you for giving us new life that we may have the privilege to partake in your holy life. You are the light and you are good, therefore we should live as children of light. May your holy spirit cleanse our hearts and fill our hearts that we may find out what pleases the Lord and follow your will. Dear Lord, in this new year, may our lives be greatly filled with your kindness, righteousness and truth; and to always count our blessings from you and learn to give thanks in all circumstances. Please help us and lead us. Amen.

New Hope in Christ – 2 Peter 3:8-14

Scripture Recitation

(Individually or Take turns)

But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare. 11 Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives 12 as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. 13 But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells. 14 So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him.

Prayer

Dear Lord, we know that the day of your coming is near. Please teach us how to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Teach us to keep watch and keep us in your holiness always, help us to live a godly life. Lord, we pray for the lost souls. They have not realized that they are standing on the slippery ground that leads them to their eternal destruction. Dear Lord, open their eyes that they may truly know that now is the time of God’s favor, this is the day of salvation. May their hearts turn to you quickly to escape the future judgement of eternal death. Please spur our hearts to love the lost souls; grant us the courage and eagerness to share your precious salvation with them to fulfill the great commission you have entrusted us.

Dear Lord, we look forward to the new heaven and new earth and we look forward to the day we will meet you face to face. May each of us be found spotless and blameless on that day and that we will be called “ the good and faithful servant, come and share your master’s great feast.”! Lord, you will surely come again, please come quickly!

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of our heavenly Father, the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us always, from now till forever.  Amen!
